This mix was recorded on12/10/2000, my first year in nyc and it has very special meaning to me. This was the first mixtape i gave to jasper, pete, and anthony at turntable lab. They liked it, but didn't think it would sell at the time. This is also the mixtape i gave to nickodemus, which eventually got me to start opening up for him and mariano at turntables on the hudson. The artwork is taken from a painting i bought off anton lopez, when he had his first show at the vice store. I don't think i could afford to buy his work now. At the time it was recorded, i was apartment hunting, and crashing on a futon at a friend's freezing cold loft in brooklyn. I was cooking a lot of pasta at the time to save money, so i called the mix "dub aglio e olio" which means, dub with garlic and oil.

I recorded the entire 90 minute mixtape in one day, 45 minutes at a time, in one take. There are no edits and all the scratches and acapella blends were done live. I tried to put many different styles, and flow from downtempo to dub to drum and bass to dancehall to acid jazz. It was originally recorded on mini-disc, transferred on a cd, then dubbed onto cassettes, so the sound quality is a little "hissy". I pressed up only 50 copies. I could not remember the names, or find the records, for most of the songs on this mix. I'm just calling it side a and side b, and both had to be cut a bit short to fit on one cd.

Some featured artists are kruder and dorfmeister, thievery corp, cutty ranks, les nubiens, gregory isaacs, tony d, cottonbelly, black uhuru, kenny dope, and dj cam.

It also includes 3 amazing tracks (1,14,and 20) from a rare white label compilation called "dub fried funk food", one of my most prized vinyls, which i traded over $50 worth of old rave records to acquire.
